Their chips are golden, their fish is fresh and their kebabs mouthwatering.

This week, Grimsbury Fish Bar was celebrating becoming Banbury Guardian Chip Shop of the Year 2014 after happy customers voted the Middleton Road takeaway to be their favourite!

George Xiourouppas and his friendly staff team beat off competition from other fish and chip shops in the area to score the most votes and take the title.

The Chip Shop of the Year contest launched back in February and was our readers’ chance to vote for their favourite fish and chip shop.

The nominations received created a final shortlist of seven local establishments and after three weeks of voting, Grimsbury Fish Bar has been crowned the winner!

“This is brilliant, very nice,” said Mr Xiourouppas.

“People have come in and told us about the competition and we’re very pleased they have taken time to vote for us.

“I’ve been here 29 years and I’d say the trick of being a good fish and chip shop is to serve good fresh fish and kebabs and give generous portions.”

Thank you to everyone who nominated, voted and got in touch – we’ve been overwhelmed by the response.

n We will shortly be launching our Banbury Guardian Salon of the Year 2014 contest.

For full details on how to nominate your favourite hair and/or beauty salon, simply pick up a copy of this newspaper on Thursday, May 8.
