The Banbury Guardian spent five minutes with Shaun Jardine of Brethertons Solicitors LLP, to see what he gets up to on a daily basis.
What do you do at work?
“I’m a commercial litigator and trained mediator but my role is essentially all about people. I fight for clients’ rights in matters of property and breach of contracts. As a mediator, I’m also called upon by fellow professionals to avoid people going to court.
“As the partner responsible for overall business development, on most days I’ll be meeting someone either within or outside our firm to discuss what may be the ‘next big thing’. In the past year alone, we’ve grown from 220 to nearly 270 people, engaged many new clients and scooped nine business awards; so we must be doing something right…
“I’m a great believer in building community relationships and showcasing talent. For instance, Brethertons has a newly-refurbished reception at our Banbury office and it was completely designed and executed by art students at Banbury & Bicester College. Fantastic.”
And outside of work?
“My two daughters are studying business management and languages. Despite them not being at home, it’s amazing how many times dad is called upon to share a few strategies; check their CVs or just to be there when it matters. With a busy wife who runs her own marketing company [Debra Jardine of PDQ Partnership] our home-talk is often about business too; but it’s fun. When we all get together it turns into a brain-storm!”
What is next for you?
“To keep Brethertons thinking ‘ahead of the game’ to embrace changes to the legal profession and the challenges which inevitably arise.”
