A serious fire broke out in Banbury yesterday (Saturday) which saw more than 60 firefighters attend and residents evacuated from their home.
It happened at about 9.40am in Padbury Drive, and crews from Banbury, Deddington and Hook Norton tackled the blaze which was located on the top storey of a three-storey town house and had spread to the roof space.
Chris Wilson, incident commander, said: “The crews worked extremely hard in very hot, difficult conditions, wearing breathing apparatus and deploying high pressure hose lines. After a sustained period of aggressive firefighting of about two hours, we were able to prevent any further fire spread.”
Investigations into the cause of the fire remain ongoing, and the road remained closed overnight. Several residents were treated for the effects of smoke and were taken to hospital.
