Firefighters tackle flooded road

Firefighters from Hook Norton and Banbury are currently in Adderbury after sewage drains burst and flooded a residential road this morning (Friday).

With the torrential rain overnight, homeowners in Round Close Road woke up to find water streaming through the road. Two fire engines have been called and are working hard to transfer the standing water towards the Lucy Plackett Playing Field, which now resembles a large lake.

Lesley Wearing, who lives at number 19, has been working non-stop with husband Brian and their children Emma and son-in-law Rodney. She said: “Throughout the night we heard the water running and within 30 minutes it was up to the front door so we were panicking about whether it would get inside the house. Since then we have been working to keep the water back using sandbags, and the firefighters have been absolutely brilliant - I can’t thank them enough.”
