A host of sci-fi film stars and comic books writers will descend on Banbury for its first ever comic con at the end of the month.

Geek Con 2016 takes place on Saturday, January 30 and is a Banbury Presents project headed by Suzette Neptune and in partnership with Glyn Smith of Comic Connections in Parsons Street.

The event is being primarily based in Castle Quay Shopping Centre and among the guests will be five original bounty hunters from the Star Wars franchise, with Jeremy Bulloch (Boba Fett), Paul Blake (Greedo), Cathy Monroe (Zuckuss), Alan Harris (Bossk) and Chris Parsons (4-LOM) making an appearance.

John Wagner, co-creator of Judge Dredd, Australian actress Virginia Hey, who played Pa’u Zoton Zhaan, in Farscape and British comic book writer Jamie Delano, the first writer of the series Hellblazer, are all set to be part of the guest list.

Other guests include Hattie Hayridge, who played Holly in Red Dwarf, John Chapman, X-Wing pilot extra in Star Wars and now children’s book writer, and artists and writers Simon Furman (Transformers), Andy Wildman (Thundercats), Guillermo Ortega (Marvel/DC) and David Lloyd (DC).

Ms Neptune, creative director at Banbury Presents, said: “As always with Banbury Presents, we are celebrating the best of our local landscape at the project’s heart, and we are also bringing in some truly stellar, well-known guests too. It’s been great to be working with local specialists at Glyn Smith’s Comic Connections on this unique project, and invaluable to have the support of Castle Quay, as our primary sponsor.”

Geek Con brings together a classic con full of Q&A, signings, cosplay, gaming,showings and screenings, early releases and special appearances together with added features like illusionists, body art, magicians, circus and contortion.

There will be a science steam punk, a science fair and demonstrations, gadgets, technology, fantasy battles, stunt displays, behind the scenes workshops.

Indulge your inner geek with comics, graphic art, directors,illustration, animation, film, actors, stunt people, writers, traders and lots of great guests from our favourite fantasy, sci-fi, gothic and horror publications and media.

During the daytime there will be a multi-venue programme including outdoor processional and performances from Stormtroopers, martial artists, stunt displays, the Knights and Fights, re-enactment, and indoor science demos, art-in-action and local hot street food.

There will also be chances for the public to jump into things like zombie, cartooning, science and illustration and a 15-20-minute showcase screening of the zombie film Apocalypse, which was shot on location in Banbury town centre, and a Q&A session with its director Tony Jopia.

The evening event showcases a come-in-costume Cosplay Competition event, featuring full bar, food and live music, console gaming, cartoon workshops and special large-scale, multi person, interactive group games.

Special signings and a back catalogue will be at Comic Connections throughout the day followed by a full evening programme for 18 + at Also Known As.

Local artists, illustrators and con specialists Hayley Fidler, Tim Cherry –Jones, Patrick Currier, Joshua Andrews, Daniel Cronin and a small number of other special steering group members have been brought on board behind the scenes.
