Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry has welcomed unemployment figures in Banbury which shows there are 512 fewer claimants of Jobseekers Allowance than last April.
In the figures released yesterday (Wednesday), it shows that Banbury now has an unemployment rate of just one per cent - the lowest the rate has been for a number of years.
Sir Tony said: “This is very good news for Banbury and I suspect it is the first long in a long time where we have seen a year-on-year fail in unemployment. There is of course much to do for those who are out of work. Indeed, one person unemployed is one too many.
“For those still unemployed locally, very often they have the additional challenge of being lone parents or have been made redundant over the age of 50.
“That is why Banbury Job Club and other services provided by places such as the Sunshine Centre are invaluable in helping these people get them back into the world of work as soon as possible.”
