A sales director at an estate agency in Banbury will face an incredible challenge of endurance in the UK Half Ironman triathlon.
Chris Scott of Hamptons International in Market Place, Banbury, will take part in the event in Wimbleball, Somerset on June 15 and despite already exceeding his target of £500 he wants to push further to reach £1,000.
Mr Scott said: “Cancer Research is fighting more than 200 cancers. Every single pound donated helps fund ground-breaking research, bringing close the day when all cancers will be cured.
“I’ve had a personal experience as my dad died from it, but Hamptons is also supporting the charity so I am hoping that lots of small contributions will make a big enough difference to help me reach my target.”
The UK Half Ironman challenge consists of a 1.26-mile open water swim, 56-mile bike ride and 13-mile off-road run.
Competitors must complete the event inside eight hours and 30 minutes. Mr Scott, a member of Bicester Tri-Club, admits that doing a test ride on the route which has 54 hills – including three with a 14 per cent incline – has knocked his confidence.
He said: “Some guys were pulling their bikes up the hill on foot and going faster than me while I was on the bike!”
