Demolition work begins at the site of the burnt out Oak Cash and Carry on Beaumont Road

Work to demolish Oak Cash & Carry in Banbury started this week following the destruction of the building in a December 6 blaze.

Eighty firefighters from four counties tackled the fire, which could be seen from miles around .

At the height of the blaze, which fire investigators have since concluded was accidental, flames reached up to 15 metres in height.

Demolition work – which will also see the neighbouring and damaged business Gem Tool Hire knocked to the ground – is expected to last about one month. Gem Tool Hire is currently operating from alternative Beaumont Road premises.
