Cherwell’s link with China was strengthened this week as Banbury MP Sir Tony Baldry visited Xishuangbanna in the Chinese province of Yunnan.
During his visit, Sir Tony signed a Letter of Intent to establish a Sister City relationship between the two districts.
The MP also signed a Sister School agreement on behalf of Oxford and Cherwell Valley College (OCVC) to highlight the commitment the two regions have to link education and employment for those between 16 and 19.
Sir Tony said: “I was fortunate to meet Governor Luo when he visited Cherwell in December 2012 in his then capacity of senior economic counsellor. We agreed that the relationship between our respective districts was a cornerstone to developing economic and community investments in the future.”
In October Sir Tony will also be made a Fellow of the 48 Group Club at the Chinese Embassy in recognition of the role he has played in building positive relations with China.
