Pupils at a village primary school have helped send shoeboxes full of stationery equipment to a children’s orphanage in Africa. Youngsters at Bishop Carpenter School in North Newington have created 20 boxes which will be sent to the The Children of Mercy Orphanage in Mombasa. The idea came after class teacher Lauren Grantham visited the orphanage last year.

Headteacher Dom Murphy is really pleased with the school’s efforts. He said: “I think it is really important for the children to do something like this, it becomes a much more personal contact for them.”
