Those struggling to raise a deposit for a mortgage or find a property to buy or rent within their budget are being urged to take part in the Build! project being championed by Cherwell District Council.
Build! provides people with a chance to come together to build, renovate or decorate a property. In return for the work they put in, they are then eligible to buy at a reduced purchase price or rent at a lower market rate.
Plots of land have now been secured as well as some long-term empty properties. During 2014 these will be developed to create new and affordable homes across the Banbury.
Councillor Debbie Pickford, lead member for housing, said: “We need innovative schemes such as this to make sure that this generation and the next aren’t denied a stable and affordable home. There are options to suit everyone from beginners right through to those who want to build a property from scratch. So don’t be put off if you are not a DIY expert as training will be provided.”
Places at free workshops taking place throughout September and October can be booked at www.cherwell.gov.uk/build or by calling 01295 221615.
