This week Scottish Widows Investment Partnership (SWIP) the owners of Castle Quay shopping centre in Banbury, submitted an outline planning application to Cherwell District Council outlining its major extension plans for the centre.
The proposals include a new multi-screen cinema, a large quality supermarket, canal side cafés, business hotel and restaurants. Public consultation on the plans took place in the summer with more than 700 people attending three exhibitions.
Cameron Murray, Fund Manager at SWIP, commented: “We are delighted to submit these proposals which we believe will attract more shoppers and visitors into Banbury town centre, helping it to grow and become more prosperous.
“We have been encouraged by the overwhelming positive feedback from people who attended our consultation events in the summer and encourage them to send letters of support for the proposal to Cherwell District Council’s planning officers.”
SWIP is still in discussions with the General Foods Social Club located on land within the proposed area of development.
Mr Murray continued: “We are optimistic that not only will the social club remain in Banbury but it will hopefully benefit from improved facilities in a new Town Centre location.”
