A 50-year-old man has appeared at Oxford Crown Court charged with arson in connection with a series of blazes at ATMs in Banbury on Thursday June 5.

Colin Aries of no fixed abode appeared via prison link before judge Mary Mowat for a preliminary hearing this morning (Friday).

He spoke only to give his name.

The case was adjourned until August 8 for a psychiatric report and a provisional trial date was set for December 8.

ATMs belonging to Santander, Lloyds Bannk and Yorksire Bank in Banbury were all severely damaged by flames in the incident and the front entrance of the town’s Freemasons Hall was also badly damaged by fire.
