Byfield horse training expert Grant Bazin is breaking new ground by launching Europe’s first natural horsemanship competition.

A former jockey, Mr Bazin, of New Leaf Farm has practised and promoted the kindest and most effective methods of training horses for over a decade. He was a rider for the legendary US horseman Monty Roberts on his European tours.

In a bid to demonstrate how ‘natural’ methods are superior to the more traditional domination of horses he is challenging like-minded experts from all over Europe in eight contests, starting with the UK leg at Bury Farm Equestrian Centre, Buckinghamshire on April 5-6.

Three sets of competitors are lined up to back young horses and remedially train horses with specific problems.

“Horseman’s Calling is a unique test of horsemanship skills. Run over two days it is the ultimate test of natural horsemanship,” said Mr Bazin.

“We give well-known trainers and young and upcoming individuals the opportunity to display their talents. We’ve also got a number of fantastic demonstrations by proven experts in many fields.”

Horseman’s Calling will be judged by five well-known personalities who have excelled in various equestrian pursuits. They will judge the contestants on their training methods as well as the end results.
