Breaking: New Year’s Day assault

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 24-year-old man was punched repeatedly in the face in Banbury on New Year’s Day.

The man was walking in West Street in the direction of Middleton Road at about 8.15am when he was chased by the attacker.

The victim fell over and was punched in the face a number of times.

He was treated for cuts and a puncture wound to his face at Horton General Hospital.

The offender is white, about 6ft tall, with light mousey-coloured hair, clean shaven and about 18-years-old.

He was wearing a tracksuit and dark jacket.

Investigating officer, PC Matthew Oaten said: “The incident occurred in a residential street, so I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the assault to contact police.

“I would also urge those members of the public who stopped to help the victim to contact the police.”
