Banbury’s Spiceball North, Mill & Spiceball Park Road car parks have been closed by Cherwell District Council this afternoon due to the possibility of flooding.

A flood alert has also been placed on the River Cherwell this afternoon after several days of heavy rainfall.

The amber alert signifying ‘flooding is possible - Be prepared’, was put in place by the Environment Agency at 9:29am this morning from Charwelton to just above Upper Heyford.

The agency issued a statement this morning reading: “Levels on the River Cherwell have risen due to the recent rainfall and the river is expected to spill out into the floodplain later today. Levels will continue to rise slowly through out today. No property flooding is currently expected. The latest weather forecast suggests that a largely dry day can be expected today, with the prospect of some showers later this evening. Further rain is forecast for tomorrow.”
