LAND around Brackley is continuing to be eyed up by developers with a new application to build 180 homes joining a growing list of major planning proposals.

Manor Oak Homes has submitted plans to South Northamptonshire Council to build 180 residential homes on land at Foxhill in Brackley North, Brackley, with access from the A43 and Northampton Road.

The plans follow other major housing applications which have been put forward by other developers, including plans to build 1,000 homes on land at Radstone Fields and 130 new houses at Brackley Sawmills in Northampton Road.

Brackley Town Mayor Chris Cartmell said: “The town council had a presentation by Manor Oak Homes and we were more than satisfied with what they were proposing.

“This will tidy up from the edge of the Radstone Fields site to the back of the BP garage and therefore it is welcome.” In addition to the housing applications Brackley has also been subject to plans to create the district’s first Sainsbury’s supermarket, health care centre and production warehouse on land off Northampton Road.

The site would also house a new primary care centre, include the relocation of Brackley Cottage Hospital and a production and distribution building, with about 1,100 new jobs expected to be created across the site.

Mr Cartmell said: “All of these developments can only be good for the town.

“If Sainsbury’s does go ahead we will have a new supermarket at that end of town which will complement all of the new houses which will eventually be built and it is all good in terms of competition for the other supermarkets and petrol stations.” The application for the 180 new homes will cover a site area of 8.68 hectares which is currently listed as vacant agricultural land.

The properties will be a mixture of flats and family homes and will include appropriate affordable housing provision.

The application is set to be put before councillors to make a decision at a meeting in March.

Plans for the 130 homes at Brackley Sawmills and 1,000 homes in Radstone Fields were both approved in 2011.

A formal application on the supermarket development is expected to be submitted to the council later this year following an exhibition in the town last year.
