A florist who works in Banbury is hoping to fulfil a career dream when she competes
in a regional heat for the
RHS Chelsea Flower Show on Sunday.
April Bennett works at Castle Flowers in Banbury’s Castle Quay shopping centre and after finishing in the top six at the Skills Show in November, she will showcase her talent in the southern heat of the Chelsea Flower Show in Portsmouth.
If successful she will display her work at Chelsea in May.
Miss Bennett, who lives in High Wycombe, said: “This would mean everything to me if I was to get through. I remember watching it on the television and seeing all the amazing arrangements.
“I never thought I could be this close to getting an opportunity like this.
“I would feel that I have achieved something in my career if it happened, it would be amazing.”
As part of Sunday’s competition, the 22-year-old will get a brief but will not be told what flowers she can use until the day. “I hope to inspire people in the long term, to try to get them involved in this career,” she said.
“I hope to do workshops and show people how they can do arrangements themselves. Floristry is great because every day is different. One day you could be arranging flowers for a wedding or a funeral, and the next you could be doing birthdays or deliveries in Banbury within ten minutes.”
