Banbury went back in time on Saturday as the town was transformed as part of the fifth Old Town Party.

Parsons Street, Market Place, White Lion Walk and Church Lane were all filled with the likes of landgirls, soldiers and dapper looking men and women as the party paid homage to the 1940s.

Old town shop keepers all donned 1940s style clothes and many shop windows had been transformed to bring the town back in time to mark the 70th anniversary of D-Day.

The event was organised by the Old Town Association and its chairman Barry Whitehouse, of The Artery, was very happy with how it turned out.

He said: “The amount of people that are here is just wonderful. A lot of planning has gone into this and the shop keepers all got into the swing of it.”

He estimated about 3,000-4,000 people visited the old town on the day as part of the celebrations.
