Actors of all ages – experienced or newcomers to the stage – are invited to audition for roles in Banbury’s seasonal pantomime, Aladdin.
The show will be a traditional British panto with visual comedy, slapstick and audience participation, presented by Cherwell Theatre Company at The Mill Theatre in January.
Rehearsals begin in November. Director, Hollywood screen actor and playwright Nasser Memarzia, said: “The main characters will be played by professional actors but there are lots of other sizeable roles to cast including comic characters such as police officers, the Genie, the Emperor, the Empress and the Princess .
“It will give enthusiastic non-professionals a chance to work with the pros! It’s a great opportunity, particularly for students of performing arts and at GCSE or A level, to experience working in a professional environment.
“No-one needs to prepare material specially; we may ask them to read a short piece but it will be stress free!”
Mr Memarzia said commitment will be one or two evenings a week from November up to Christmas, with a week of intensive rehearsals in the new year. Rehearsals will be out of school and office hours. The play will go on stage from January 10-19.
“We’ll be especially pleased to see anyone serious about a career in the theatre. There will also be opportunities for those who would like to help backstage or are keen to gain production experience,” said Mr Memarzia. “We’ll be making it possible for people to share roles if there are time restrictions, so actors won’t have to perform in every performance.”
Auditions take place on Saturday, September 28 from 10am-4pm at The Mill. To arrange an audition contact email@example.com
