Join the Cinders party at Chipping Norton Theatre

SWEETS, singalongs and surprises; Cinderella at Chipping Norton Theatre comprises all the traditional pantomime ingredients and much more.

The theatre’s 40th panto does not fail to deliver as it has the entire audience – both young and old – roaring with laughter and desperately chasing the sweets thrown to them (the Banbury Guardian team included!).

Despite having been in this country for five years, I had never actually been to a good old English panto until November 22, when I was invited along to Chipping Norton Theatre.

If all productions are of the same high standard as Chippy’s I have definitely been missing out!

Admittedly, I did not quite know what to expect when I first walked into the sweet little theatre quietly tucked away on the edge of the Cotswolds.

But when I walked out a few hours later, not only did I know what all the fuss was about but my expectations for forthcoming pantos are now sky-high.

Written by Ben Crocker and directed by John Terry, the classic tale introduces the audience to Cinderella who lives in Venice at the Casa Harduppo where she is bullied by her beastly step sisters Tutti and Frutti – brilliantly played by Richard Croughan and Shaun Hennessy.

Meanwhile Prince Charming is inviting all ladies to the Royal Ball but the evil sisters destroy Cinderella’s invitation. However, all is not lost as the Fairy Godmother sends Cinderella off to the ball, but on one condition – she must leave before midnight.

The Prince and Cinderella dance the night away but when the clock strikes midnight the magic starts to wear off and it is time for her to escape.

Cinderella is running until January 6. Tickets start at £8.50. Call 01608 642350 to book.
