Intriguing questions raised by group’s new production

IT IS not all sweetness and goodwill to all men in Hook Norton this month...

There is a rogue character in the village who has not exactly engaged in the spirit of Christmas.

But people need not worry, as it is only Ebenezer Scrooge in this year’s Hooky Players pantomime Bah Humbug – their take on the pantomime version of A Christmas Carol.

The production is on from Wednesday, January 16 to Saturday, January 19 at 7.30pm in the Hook Norton Memorial Hall with an additional matinee on the Saturday afternoon at 2.30pm.

Kerrie McCormick, who plays both Mrs Fezziwig and Mrs Cratchitt and whose husband John is directing, producing and taking part in the show, said: “This has been a real team effort. We have a lot of young members in our cast who have created a lot of energy and enthusiasm.

“We’ve all had great fun putting the show together and we’re certain that this will come across to the audience.”

She added the group was delighted to find a Dickens related script to continue the celebration of the 200th anniversary of the author’s birth.

“We looked at a number of panto scripts and we all agreed that it was by far the funniest. It also had the advantage of being based, albeit very loosely, on such a great story,” she said.

Why does the story have a bossy, dame-like orphanage proprietor? Has Tiny Tim gone over to the dark side? Why are there street hustlers? Why does Marley have so many issues? Will Scrooge change his ways at the end?

“To get the answers to all of these intriguing questions, people will just have to come along and see the show!” said Mrs McCormick. Tickets are priced at £7 for adults and £5 concessions and can be reserved either in the Hooky village shop, by email at tickets@hookyplayers.org or by calling John or Kerrie McCormick on 01608 737350.

The amateur dramatic society puts on two productions per year, usually a comedy and a pantomime. For more details visit http://hookyplayers.org
