A former Hook Norton Primary School pupil is to perform as part of a touring company for a prestigious ballet school at The Theatre in Chipping Norton.

Hugo Brown, 20, of Hook Norton, started ballet when he was just eight years old and was accepted as a Junior Associate with the prestigious London-based Royal Ballet School.

Hugo was chosen to perform in Sleeping Beauty and Ondine and he also danced in two seasons of Cinderella with The Royal Ballet Company at The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Being on the stage at the Opera House inspired Hugo to become a professional classical ballet dancer.

After five years with the Royal Ballet Associates, Hugo was offered a place at Central School of Ballet on their Pre-Senior Programme and moved to London aged 16 to take up his place.

Hugo is now a full-time student of Central School of Ballet and is in his graduating year.

He is looking forward to coming back to Chippy as part of touring company Ballet Central and is hoping to make his friends, supporters and family proud.

He said: “It’s brilliant. There are a lot of people I know who have never come up to London and have never seen me dance and half my friends will be there.

“If someone had come up to me when I first started and told me where I would be now, I would just have laughed in their face. It happened so fast and I still feel now it’s not real.

“The whole point of it is that I hope people enjoy it. It’s really fun to do so I hope it’s fun to watch.”

Ballet Central performs at The Theatre on Thursday, May 1 at 7.45pm. Tickets cost £14 for adults, £12 for concessions.
