Hook Norton Brass Band’s musical director has stepped down after nearly ten years with the band.
Jenny Barrie has handed over the baton after her spell at the helm, following a move to north Norfolk.
Having made the move five months ago, Mrs Barrie has continued to lead the band throughout both weekly practices and other engagements.
She directed her final concert at Cherington Flower Show on Saturday which was followed by a farewell concert in Hook Norton’s St Peter’s Church. The weekend before was spent with the band in Dublin, where they performed two concerts.
She is succeeded by Shaun Humphries.
Mrs Barrie said: “I am very sad to be ending my time with the band, but what a stunning way to finish it off!
“It’s not just about one person, it is about the band as a whole.
“It has been such a pleasure and a privilege to have had these nine years with the band, and to watch not only the main band grow, but also the formation of the training band, which is now feeding into the main band.
“I am very happy that I am leaving the band in such good shape, and that Shaun, my successor, is going to have as good a time as I have had.
“I knew when I made the decision to move that I would have to leave the band, but we are talking about a possible tour next year... to north Norfolk!”
