Hats and shoes through Oxfordshire’s history is the unique theme of Banbury Museum’s current exhibition Head Over Heels, which opened on Saturday, May 3.

Visitors to the exhibition will take a journey back in time from historical artefacts to glamorous fashion accessories, discovering Oxfordshire traditions along the way.

The exhibition explores how fashions transform and transfix us and why we desire that ‘must have’ fashion item. It also encourages visitors to discover the magic of garments and tells captivating stories from Oxfordshire’s past. Head over heels includes a variety of themes such as weddings and coronations and even protective work wear worn by workers in Banbury’s Alcan factory.

With a dedicated dressing up area visitors can try on various different accessories making the exhibition fun for all of the family.

Dale Johnston, events and exhibitions manager at Banbury Museum explained “This is an exhibition that everyone can relate to.

“Children will enjoy the dressing up area too and there are a few surprises.”

The exhibition will remain open between Monday and Saturday from 10am-5pm until July 12. It is also open on Bank Holidays from 10.30am–4.30pm.
