This year’s Fairport’s Cropredy Convention promises a more diverse line-up than ever with acts as varied as Chas & Dave and Marillion set to take the stage at the ever-evolving festival.

The 35th Cropredy, which bills itself as ‘Britain’s friendliest music festival’, will run this year from August 7-9 with a packed line-up of bands on each day and all the usual food, beer and merchandise stalls to tickle your taste buds.

Headlining the Thursday night are folk-rock legends The Waterboys, closely followed by Steve Hackett’s Genesis Extended with their blend of 80s power pop and Scottish folk-crossover pioneers Capercaillie.

Friday’s headliners are the hugely popular Australian Pink Floyd who create all the drama and surrealism of the original Pink Floyd show to transport the audience to the dark side of the moon. An unexpected twist are Chas & Dave who will no doubt have the crowd chanting along with their catchy cockney banter.

Among the treats on Saturday are acclaimed Irish folk singer Cara Dillon and rock legends Marillion, who must fill the boots of the festival’s somewhat surprising nod to heavy rock so amazingly worn by Alice Cooper last year.

And, of course, headlining the Saturday are Fairport Convention themselves, the seemingly ageless folk-rock legends first formed in 1967 who bring together an eclectic mix of tunes from classics from their 1960s albums such as Liege and Lief to fresh material from their upcoming studio recording. Now in their 47th year, the band remain evergreen.

Festival organiser Gareth Williams said on Tuesday tickets are selling so well they may not be available on the gate, so fans are advised to book fast.

For those who enjoy hanging out at a traditional village pub in the days around the festival there is the Cropredy Fringe Festival, now much vaunted for the quality of acts it attracts.

The free event at the Brasenose Arms runs from Saturday, August 2 to Sunday, August 10.
