Banbury-based Anjali Dance Company has been awarded Arts Council funding to train learning-disabled dancers to deliver dance workshops in schools and community settings ahead of a national performance tour next year.
Professional-level dancers who are full-time members of Anjali will receive specialist training to enable them to share their skills and knowledge with local young people, with a view to inspiring a new generation of dancers.
Anjali dancer and education leader Daisy Garrett said: “It’s a great opportunity for us and we are looking forward to developing our skills and working with new dance artists and teaching more workshops. We want to show everyone what we can do.”
In the spring Anjali will embark on a national tour of a new show, Genius, which has been made in collaboration with renowned choreographers Gary Clarke and Lea Anderson. It will be premiered at Banbury’s Mill Arts Centre.
