Disability dance company seeks new young members

Anjali Dance Company is holding an open audition for its young company, Young Anjali, in the new year.

Anjali Dance Company celebrates the creative potential of people with learning disabilities, through dance.

Supported by Oxfordshire County Council and The Mill Arts Centre, Anjali is committed to challenging preconceptions about who can dance and demonstrating new artistic possibilities.

The company empowers learning-disabled dancers by actively supporting and developing their creative and professional development.

Anjali also runs weekly open classes for young people and adults with learning disabilities at the Mill on Monday evenings.

Young Anjali is for young people with learning disabilities aged 13 to 24.

The group is looking for young people who have potential to apply themselves in dance technique and creative movement tasks, as well as beingable to work with others in the group.

The parent of one Young Anjali participant said:“The experience that the Anjali Youth Company has given my daughter is truly amazing.

“Young adults with learning disabilities have few opportunities for performance and the benefits of being able to do this alongside their mainstream peers should never be underestimated.”

The Young Anjali audition will take place at StyleAcre, Banbury, from 1.30pm to 5pm on Sunday, January 15.

The audition process is fun, and friendly. Young people taking part don’t need any previous experience to take part, just some enthusiasm.
