Dense branches trap elderly pair in their car near Spiceball Centre

Two people were trapped by dense foliage after their car left the road near Spiceball Leisure Centre on Saturday.

Shortly before 5.30pm, fire crews and a rescue pump from Banbury were called to the collision on Concord Avenue by South Central Ambulance Service.

A vehicle had left the road and come to rest down a small grassy verge, the thick foliage trapping both elderly occupants inside.

Crews needed to use cutting equipment to remove branches from around the car to make an assessment of the occupants, both of whom appeared to be unharmed but were assessed by paramedics. They were given the all clear were helped from the vehicle using special fast evacuation straps, which enabled fire crews help them from the vehicle carefully and quickly.

Road safety manager Mick Clarke, who attended the incident said: “At this time it is not apparent why the accident happened but fortunately no one was injured and all three services worked quickly to ensure the safety of those involved. Both occupants were taken to the Horton Hospital for a full medical assessment.”
