An 80-year-old woman has been robbed while walking through an alley in Banbury town centre.

At about 10.55am on Wednesday, October 19 the woman was walking through the alleyway leading from Castle Street to Majestic Wine, through to School Lane in Banbury town centre.

She was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her handbag.

The pensioner struggled with the offender and the victim’s bag fell to the ground. At that point the man grabbed the victim’s purse and ran back towards Castle Street.

The woman was not seriously injured during the incident.

The victim had her black leather purse stolen which contained cash.

A 20-year-old man from Banbury has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and has been bailed until November 16 but police are still appealing for additional information.
