Three Banburyshire pubs invited customers to enjoy a pint with a difference 32 years ago. The Royal Oak in Whatcote near Shipston-on-Stour, The Unicorn in Banbury and The White Horse in Wroxton took part in a three-month trial to assess public reaction to selling milk. They were among 30 venues testing the ‘Milk in Pubs’ concept throughout the south Midlands, and the trial was in response to increasing demand among the public for a family atmosphere in Britain’s pubs, meaning there was a need for a wider range of non-alcoholic drinks.

The pubs offered milk on draught from specially developed ‘milk pumps’ and even offered customers a range of flavours. Pictured are Mandy Wright, Debbie Buck, Pauline Goddard and back, Jean Wright, landlady of the Unicorn Pub.
