Townswomen’s Guild members in Banbury entertained their husbands for the first time at an annual dinner - and later described it as a huge success, it was reported in the Banbury Guardian on March 1, 1973.
Pictured at the guild’s seventh annual dinner are treasurer Mrs Doris Durham, Mr Peter Brown, Mrs Juliette Brown, the chairman, Mrs Daphne Manley, vice-chairman, Mr Alfred Grant and Mrs Doris Grant the secretary.
Mrs Brown said later: “It was a very great success. In previous years members have voted against inviting husbands but the vote went the other way this year and we are very glad it did.
“After the meal we were entertained by Jo and John – two folk singers from Northampton who read verse and sang songs about life from birth to death.”
