A Banbury motor company offered a £500 reward for information 28 years ago after vandals attacked a car display, causing £10,000 of damage.
As reported in the Banbury Guardian on January 23, 1986, the panels on 28 second-hand cars at Bristol Street Motors, Southam Road, were kicked and dented by raiders late on a Friday night. “It would appear that as cars on adjourning forecourt displays were not attacked that the damage was caused by the way of some vendetta against Bristol Street Motors’, said a police spokesman. “Although at this stage there is no known reason why this should be so.” The branch had never experienced vandalism to this extent, with only minor incidents such as cars being scratched or wheels taken.
