Staff at Banbury’s Horton Hospital were kept busy as they delivered five New Year babies in 1973.

As reported in the Banbury Guardian’s January 4 edition, three girls and two boys were born on New Year’s Day and first on the scene was Jason Offer who arrived at 7.42am, weighing 8lb.

Next in line was Caroline Clare Dias who was born at 3.04pm, weighing 7lb 1oz. At 5.02pm Mrs Mavis Cairns of Green Lane, Chesterton gave birth to her first baby, Darryl John who weighed 5lb 7oz. He was followed closely by Veronica McCarty who was born at 5.50pm, weighing 8lb 2oz. Last but by no means least, John Lallane came at 7pm, weighing 6lb 3oz. His proud mum was Elizabeth Lallane of Turnpike Road, Bicester. From left to right are Mrs Lallane, Mrs Offer, Mrs Cairns, Mrs Dias and Mrs McCarty with the babies.
