Things to do in Banbury this Bank Holiday weekend

As the long weekend approaches pubs, clubs, village halls, and sports grounds across the area are hosting a number of events to suit everyone. Here is a selection of these events with all the details you need to plan your bank holiday.

The Easington pub in Banbury, will host a charity fun day on bank holiday Monday, August 29 from 12 to 4pm . All proceeds will be going the charity SeeSaw, who help young people come to terms with the loss or up coming loss of a parent or sibling. The fun day will feature pony rides , stocks to throw wet sponges at people, a bouncy castle, face painting, a raffle, tombola, lucky dip and a water or wine stall.

The Gate Hangs High pub in Hook Norton will be hosting a Steam Rally on Saturday August 27 and Sunday 28. The rally will feature unique vehicles, a fete and live music from 8pm Saturday and 5pm on the Sunday. Show opens at noon on both days.

The Barfords, St John and Michael, will hold their annual barbecue on Sunday 28 from 6pm in the Village Hall gardens. Serving locally produced burgers and sausages from Henry’s Butcher Shop at Wyatt’s Farm Shop. Good quality veggie sausages also available, all with a great selection of delicious home-made salads.

Cropredy will hold its annual Gardening Club Flower, Vegetable and Craft show on Saturday 27, from 3pm at the Village Hall. The event will feature gardening, baking and craft skills along with a raffle, tea and cakes, games, stalls.

Burton Dassett’s All Saint’s church will be serving teas and homemade cakes on Bank Holiday Monday August 29, between 11am and 5pm. Savoury and gluten free options will available. There will be local art, craft stalls and guess the name of (another) chicken. Hopefully Guide Dog Puppy Eddie will also make an appearance. All proceeds to go to the care of All Saints church and the provision of modest kitchen facilities.

Chacombe will hold its 47th Annual Flower Show on bank holiday Monday 29 in the village hall from 2pm. There are classes for everyone to enter, from vegetables and flowers, to cakes and makes. Children’s entries are free.

Refreshments and a raffle will be held throughout the afternoon. Class winners receive trophies and cash prizes. Entries need to be in by Friday, August 26. For details contact Wendy Woodward on 01295 710248.

The Granary, just outside Fenny Compton will be opening its expansive gardens on Sunday August 28 and Monday August 29 between 11am and 4.30pm as part of the National Gardens Scheme. Admission is £4 and children can enter for free. Dogs are welcome but must be kept on a lead.

A pop up artisan market will be at By the Fire Tea Shop on Calthorpe Street, Banbury on bank holiday Monday 29, between 10am and 3pm.

Second Time Around, unit 18/19 Beamount road industrial estate will be holding a vintage and flea market on Saturday, August 27 between 10am and 4pm. The event will be selling all and everything vintage, retro and old fashioned.

Edgehill Castle will host its first open air cinema night on Sunday, August 28, featuring Robin Hood Prince of Thieves.
