Legendary folkrock band Fairport Convention will take part in a bid to break the world record for an unbroken string of festive bunting at this summer’s Fairport Cropredy Convention festival.
The record attempt celebrates the tenth anniversary of Compton Verney, Warwickshire’s leading independent fine art gallery.
The five members of Fairport will visit the gallery on Friday, May 30 to hand-craft pennants. These will later be incorporated in a seven-mile-long string of individually-decorated bunting.
The band will also invite thousands of fans at Fairport’s Cropredy Convention music festival to help break the world record.
The three-day festival attracts up to 20,000 people who will be invited to contribute to the bunting world record. A team from Compton Verney will have a stall at the festival where fans can decorate blank flags with pencils, crayons and paints.
Simon Nicol from Fairport Convention said “We thought that attempting to break the world record for bunting was a great way to celebrate Compton Verney’s anniversary. It is a fun way for us to support the gallery, which is a local charity.”
This year’s festival takes place from Agust 7-9. www.fairportconvention.com
