CHRISTMAS entertainment is sorted this year with special performances by top acts at the Cotswold Comedy Club.

The Chipping Norton-based club has quickly established a devoted following since business partners Dave Arnold and Ken Norman brought it to life in April 2011 in a bid to bring the finest stand-up comedians to the area.

“They love our audience and get a real buzz performing in the Cotswolds. For them it’s a day out in the fresh air and a break from the London smog,” said Mr Norman.

On Thursday, December 20 Maff Brown and Chris McCausland will be the guest comedians at two events running simultaneously at Rye Hill Golf Club in Milcombe and Chipping Norton Town Hall.

Mr Norman said: “Maff will open at Rye Hill and, when finished there, head over to headline our gig at Chipping Norton. Chris will do the opposite.”

He added: “Chris is possibly the only professional comedian in the world who is blind.

“This only serves to make his particular brand of observational comedy all the more unique as he only occasionally talks about his disability. Instead, Chris prides himself on the variety and originality of his writing and performance.”

Held in high esteem by the national media, McCausland has starred in the three series of The Comedy Store and has worked with Jimmy Carr and Miranda Hart on shows across BBC, ITV and Channel 4.

Maff Brown is a regular performer in Edinburgh as well as performing at his own Outside The Box clubs in London and the South East. In 2012 Brown created the award-winning sketch show A Parade of This, which featured Cotswold Comedy Club’s own Dave Arnold.

The club began as an outlet for Mr Arnold and Mr Norman to perform their own stand-up comedy routines. “It’s a bit of a faff travelling here, there and everywhere to air your material, so we set up Cotswold Comedy Club on our own doorstep! Now we can try out our stuff five minutes from home,” said Mr Arnold.

Every month the club brings together three great comedians in the back room of local pubs including The Chequers Inn in Chipping Norton and The Sun Inn in Hook Norton and once a quarter the club meets at Rye Hill Golf Club.

Tickets for the event on December 20 are £24 at Rye Hill, where a chicken curry is included in the price, and £14 at Chipping Norton.

Tickets can be purchased from Rye Hill or, for the Chipping Norton evening, from Jaffé & Neale. Tickets for both events can also be purchased online at http://cotswoldcomedyclub.com

From January 2013 the club will take up residence at The Theatre in Chipping Norton and continue to run clubs in villages such as Hook Norton and Milcombe. For upcoming gigs follow @cotswoldcomedy on Twitter and find Cotswold Comedy Club on Facebook.
