A COMMUNITY sports ground has secured more than £42,000 in Olympic legacy funding to help improve its facilities.

Eydon Community Sports Field (ECSF) is one of more than 1,000 sports projects across the UK to secure the funding from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund as part of the £150 million Places People Play legacy programme.

ECSF plans to use the funds to upgrade its pavilion, construct a petanque pitch and install lighting in the Multi Use Games Area (MUGA).

Barry McRoberts, Eydon Sports Field committee chairman, said: “We are delighted to have secured this investment, which means we can upgrade the quality of our premises to enable a broader range of activities.

“It is the cornerstone of our strategy to have an outstanding community sports field pavilion and facilities for the 2012 Olympic legacy.”

Sport England’s chair, Richard Lewis, said: “This National Lottery investment is helping us deliver a lasting sporting legacy in south Northamptonshire.”
