Members of Banbury Sailing Club made the most of the warm weather on Sunday as they took to the water for their open day and fundraising event at Boddington Reservoir.
Cake by the Lake was held to raise money for Sail4Cancer, and the day was also a chance for potential new members to view the facilities and even try sailing for themselves.
Duncan Syme, general committee member at Banbury Sailing Club, said: “We were blessed with the weather and had more than 100 people turn up on the day, which was great, and 12 new members joined the club. The club is all about being family friendly and really attracts people of all ages. We wanted people to come and have a go on the training boats and talk to our qualified instructors.”
The fundraising day raised about £135 for charity and throughout the day people enjoyed the tranquil surroundings of the reservoir and enjoyed sampling the delicious cakes. Sail4Cancer was set up in 2001 by a group of keen sailors who had all lost a close friend or relative to cancer. They help fund water-based respite days or holidays for families affected by cancer.
Mr Syme said: “The charity is something we at the club are aware of and the open day gave us an opportunity to support what is a very worthy cause. We were very happy to help.”
