Warning to tax dodgers

STRATFORD-on-Avon District Council is warning residents it is working to recover £448,355.84 in unpaid council tax for 2010/2011.

The council has a tax collection rate of 99.3 per cent but the small amount of unpaid tax has topped almost £450,000.

Cllr Valerie Hobbs, portfolio holder for enterprise, housing and revenues said: “The council needs to ensure it is sympathetic towards and works with those who are sincerely struggling to pay high bills, but at the same time we must crack down on the hard core of residents who are refusing to pay year-on-year as that is unacceptable.”
