Banbury salon Hair Concepts is celebrating 25 years in business this week.
Three years after moving into new premises at Casa Capelli in Marlborough Road, there’s another chance to party as proprietor Paul Cook welcomes friends and clients to share a celebratory drink on Saturday.
Mr Cook said: “Only three per cent of new businesses make it past ten years – but we’ve done 25! I believe it’s because we’ve stuck to our values: passion, purpose, vision and team.”
Hair Concepts opened in the late 1980s in Calthorpe Street, in the same week as a new town centre Sainsbury’s store just 100 yards away.
Mr Cook said: “In some ways the area has just the same old charm – but in other ways it’s very different. After just a few years Sainsbury’s moved away to its current out-of-town site, so now there’s TK Maxx, Poundstretcher and the NCP car park there instead.
“Then, for a while, we were designing hair in a building site. Our building in Calthorpe Street used to be an office block with the job centre and army recruitment office. Then they turned it into apartments, including adding another storey. Of course Castle Quay has opened on the canal side of the town during our time here, but when we moved in 2011 we chose to stay in the same attractive area.”
But after a quarter of a century in business, Mr Cook insists that one thing still remains the same. He said: “It may be our silver anniversary in the business of hair design, but we’re still cutting edge.
“We’re so grateful to our loyal client support over the years, to the new clients who’ve started having their hair designed with us recently and, of course, to my fantastic team.”
The celebrations will start at 4.30pm and continue until late. A film about the construction and opening of the Casa Capelli building will be shown throughout the event.
