Police are appealing for witnesses to an assault in Banbury on Christmas Day.

The incident happened at the taxi rank near Banbury Cross between 2.30am and 3am.

A 23-year-old man was walking towards a taxi when he was approached by another man.

The offender attempted to punch the victim, before taking him to the floor and biting part of his ear off, he then ran from the scene in the direction of People’s Park.

The suspect is white, in his late teens, between 6ft and 6ft 2ins tall, of medium to large build, with short brown hair.

The victim was given stitches at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
