A new 73-bed care home has been the given the green light to be built in the centre of Banbury.

The £7.5 million facility at North Bar Place will be run by Care UK after planning permission was granted earlier this month. It is expected to create up to 75 jobs and welcome its first residents at the end of 2015. Construction work is expected to get under way later this year.

Richard Pearman, business development director of Care UK, said: “With planning consent now in place, Care UK is one step closer to delivering on its vision for the new Banbury care home and to generating employment opportunities in the town.

“This new facility represents a major investment for Care UK and every last detail has been thought through to create a high specification care home that promotes independence and will enhance residents’ lives in a number of different ways.”

The home will boost the provision of full time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care in the town, together with short-term respite care.

Designed by Newport-based KWL Architects, the three-storey building will feature its own cinema, hairdressing salon and cafe. It will incorporate space for different leisure and hobby activities to enable residents to live fulfilling and enjoyable lives.

Secure and landscaped gardens will also give residents the opportunity to spend quality time outdoors.

The layout of the care home will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to facilitate the creation of close knit communities. Each of the 73 bedrooms will benefit from its own en-suite wet room, flat-screen television, adjustable profile bed and access to a 24-hour nurse call system.

Mr Pearman said: “Care UK has built its reputation tailoring care plans to fit the requirements of each individual resident, working closely with families and friends to make sure the care environment is warm and welcoming and feels like a ‘home from home’.

“We are now looking forward to demonstrating this approach in Banbury and to helping to raise the bar for quality care for older people in the town and the wider Oxfordshire area.”
