As households stock up for another festive season, Cherwell District Council is urging people to be prepared for the Christmas leftovers with an offer on recycling bins.

Cherwell District Council has began a month-long sale of the blue recycling bins which will cost a one-off fee of just £18, saving residents £12 on the usual price.

Thousands of extra blue bins have been sold since Cherwell District Council launched the recycling scheme in 2003, and with Christmas just around the corner, the council wants to give residents more capacity to recycle paper, cardboard, plastic and cans.

Cllr Debbie Pickford, Cherwell’s lead member for clean and green, said: “Most Cherwell residents find the capacity of their standard blue bin to be more than adequate, and any occasional overflow can be collected if neatly bagged up and left beside the bin.

“But we know people generate a lot more recycling in the Christmas period, and this is the ideal time to invest in a second bin for anyone who wants to permanently increase their recycling capacity.”

The sale runs until Saturday December 31 and throughout the month the district is expected to produce 30 per cent more recycling than usual.

The extra bin remains the property of Cherwell, and any replacements and repairs to the extra bin will be carried out free of charge.

Bins can be ordered over the phone by calling 01295 227003 weekdays between 9am and 5pm.
