ENGLAND'S bid for World Cup glory this summer has received backing from a rock group hoping to prove they are in tune with the nation's hopes.
Banbury-based five-piece Outraze have remained undeterred by the Football Association's announcement that there would be no official World Cup song this year and produced their own anthemic offering to keep the stadiums of South Africa rocking.

Th
is Is England was written and recorded by the group last summer as they intended to put it forward for consideration as England's official track.

But, as guitarist Ben Adams said: "We called the FA to ask about the official song and they promptly told us there wasn't going to be one.

"I think a World Cup song really helps the fans get behind the team and if you've got thousands of people singing 'This Is England' in the stadium, as a player it has got to give you a boost.

"There's been some pretty shocking efforts in the past, naming no names, so we thought we'd give it a go – who needs FA backing anyway?"

The song has even received backing from comedian David Baddiel, who was involved in arguably the most popular England song, Three Lions.

He responded to a Twitter message from a fan of the band saying "I like it – I hope it does well."

Outraze have set up a Facebook page to generate support for the song and will release it as a single on May 10.
