A LITTERBUG who refused to pay a £75 fine has paid more than eight times the amount after a court case.
Christian Elmes of Prospect Road, Banbury, was seen by two Cherwell District Council environmental enforcement officers leaving a paper bag on a bench in Bridge Street, Banbury - even though the bin was less than five feet away.

An officer immediately issued him with a £75 fixed penalty notice.

Despite reminders, Mr Elmes failed to pay the fine and did not attend a court appearance on October 16.

He was found guilty in his absence and fined £500 in costs, £150 for the littering offence and a £15 victims' surcharge - totalling £665.

Cherwell District Council's portfolio holder for community, health and environment, Cllr George Reynolds, said: "Once again the council has taken deecisive and effective action."
