CHERWELL District Council is a man down after one of its councillors resigned.
Stuart Robbins has stepped down from his role as a Tory representative of the Banbury Hardwick ward and a by-election will now be held to find a replacement.

Mr Robbins said he took the decision because he will be spending a lot of time out of the country over the next year.

"It's purely a personal decision," he said.

"I will be in New Zealand for a lot of the time in the next year or so and I don't think I will be able to serve the people of Hardwick while I'm out there.

"I'm disappointed to be stepping down but it is a personal thing."

An election will take place within 35 days of the council receiving written notification of Mr Robbins's decision.

Mr Robbins is also a town councillor in Banbury for the same ward but said he has yet to make up his mind over whether to leave that role.
