FIREFIGHTERS from Banbury were called to help extinguish a blaze at a college.
Pupils and teachers were forced to evacuate Moreton Morrell Agricultural College, near Kineton, at 3.48pm yesterday (March 21).
Firefighters from Banbury got the call to help extinguish the fire at 7pm.
They took with them a high-powered pumpin
g unit and spent more than four hours pumping water from a nearby lake at the 40m by 20m building.
At one point more than 80 firefighters from the West Midlands, Oxfordshire, Hereford and Worcestershire were tackling the blaze.
However it is now (Friday) dieing down and the crew from Banbury has returned to base.
Damaged has been done to the college's, second and ground floor of the building plus the roof.
As well as 15 fire engines, an incident support unit and two hydraulic platforms were used. The police and ambulance service also attended.
Deputy County Fire Officer, Glen Ranger said: "This is a large incident which has required us to deploy resources and specialist equipment from across Warwickshire and neighbouring fire services.
"We are still in defensive mode tackling the blaze and expect to be in attendance for another day or so.
"The cause of the fire is yet unknown, but will be investigated once the operational side of the incident is complete."
A structural engineer is now on site to assess the damage and safety of the building.
