THE original chairman of Banbury Civic Society will step down at the group's tenth anniversary celebrations on Wednesday (May 14).
John Bell has chaired the group since its inception in 1988 and is hoping to welcome his newly nominated successor at the group's AGM.

He will also introduce the evening's guest speaker, Adrian Shooter, who is the chairman of Chiltern Railways since it received its franchise in 1996.

Mr Shooter is expected to talk about the history of the company and about the earlier years of the line. More current concerns are likely to be answered during questions.

The meeting will take place in St Mary's Church, Horsefair, Banbury at 7.30pm and is open to both members and non-members.
