Accident closes M40

JUNCTIONS 11 and 12 of the M40 are currently closed following a five-vehicle pile up.
Emergency services are currently at the scene of a collision and the motorway is closed southbound between junctions 12 and 11. Two lanes of the nortbound carriageway are also closed.


There is heavy congestion in the Banbury area and there are extensive tailbacks on the motorway.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area for the foreseeable future.

Five vehicles were involved in the collision, three lorries and two cars. One person has serious injuries and will be taken by air ambulance to Wargrave Hospital in Coventry.

A man has been arrested at the scene in suspicion of dangerous driving and is currently in police custody.
